Programmes for Children

Gymnastics Programme

  • As part of the Healthy Ireland Leitrim Fund, Leitrim Sports Partnership in partnership with Carrick on Shannon Gymnastics club delivered the junior School Gymnastics Programme in three local primary schools, Scoil Mhuire Carrick on Shannon, Gaelscoil Liatroma and Annaduff primary school.
  • The students spend one hour a week in the gymnastics club being coached by gymnastics coaches for 4 weeks with 150 children benefiting from this programme.
  • Our primary schools gymnastics programs is an initiative to impart active lifestyles on children and Gymnastics is a foundation sport for all other sports, this is because it develops agility, balance, coordination and speed (the ABC's of athleticism).
  • These physical qualities are inherent in all sports and for this reason, and all children will benefit from exposure to gymnastics which really develops the children’s fundamental skills of movement.

Sports Hall Athletics Competition

  • Leitrim Sports Partnership in association with Leitrim County Athletics Board plan, lead and deliver the Leitrim Primary Schools Sports Hall Athletics Competition which is part of a National Sports Partnership Programme. Points are awarded in each event based on the aggregate performance of the team members of each school taking part. 
  • Participating Schools can enter teams in up to 4 different categories as follows –
  • 3rd & 4th class girls
  • 3rd & 4th class boys
  • 5th & 6th class girls
  • 5th & 6th class boys 
  • SPORTSHALL Athletics (Primary) is a team event and all track and field events are team based. Teams accumulate points based on performances in each of twelve events - six track relays and six field events as follows –
