Social Farming

  • The Social Farming Ireland Regional development officer for the Border Midlands area, based in Leitrim Development Company, selected 9 participants from Leitrim who are in receipt of health and social care supports to partake in Social Farming activities on farms in their local areas.
  • The placements are on three Social Farms and run for a ten week period with three participants on each farm.
  • One participant from Dementia Services along with two others supported by HSE ID services are placed on Tommy Earley’s farm. Participants come from North Leitrim and Carrick.
  • On Michael Heslin’s farm there are two participants who are supported by ID Services and one supported by Leitrim Development Company Long term unemployed and all are from the Carrick/Gortlettragh area
  • Three participants from the Carrigallen/Newtowngore area who are supported by Focus Family Resource Centre are attending Dessie Harrington’s Farm.
